The Plus Three
Travel

So I mentioned that in Swakopmund on day 8 we picked up three newbies to the tour, Lena, Johanna and Kris…

I didn’t say much else since, well, I didn’t really know much else, but now I do so I figured I’d give you a little insight into The Perfect Ten’s “Plus Three”:

The Germans

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALena & Johanna: These two are super special because they’re the ONLY ones on our trip that came in as a pair, couples/friends or otherwise. They’ve traveled together before and are both involved in the social work field in Germany. Maja affectionately has dubbed them “Team Germany” since they do everything together, which I think is a pretty accurate depiction. They’re super sweet and at first seem to be incredibly quiet, but once you get them talking, they’re snarky and funny and I’m SO glad to have them with us. Another fun fact, apparently they’re older than me, so I’m no longer the titleholder for “oldest on the truck” — yay!

Kris: Kris is an excellent addition to our motley crew. He’s got a wicked sarcastic streak, he’s traveled quite a bit, and, oh, did I mention, he’s ALSO 26 (and turning 27 on Desert Tracker!), so he’s assisting Lena and Johanna in upping the median age too. Kris works for the Canadian Navy as an Engineer, but he took some time off to travel this year. His girlfriend, Elena, works as a kayak instructor back in Canada, and *somehow* she let this kid off his leash long enough to traipse across Africa for a few months. Hopefully she’s keeping close watch on his hoard of maple syrup back at home, or there *may* be a serious fight in the future.

So now that you’ve met everyone, get ready for more antics through the next week. I know *I’m* excited for them!
