Pancakes on the Rocks (Sydney) – Yay or Nay?
Food, Real Life, Travel

Matt and I are rather conscientious eaters, even while on vacation. However, sometimes, especially while traveling, a meal of complete indulgence is necessary.

That’s why we decided to try out Pancakes on the Rocks in Sydney. pancakesontherocks1

Our Saturday was planned to check out the Rocks Market (which by the way is really fun!), so we were poking around for a restaurant in the area when we saw Pancakes on the Rocks. I called out the name to Matt, we both looked at the menu… and we knew we had to go.

It’s definitely close enough to Circular Quay to walk over on a nice day, which is exactly what we did. The wait was about 30 minutes, which for brunch-time on a Saturday we thought was pretty reasonable. Fwiw, we arrived around 11am on Saturday morning. We actually were seated in about 20 minutes, and our waitress was incredibly pleasant and kind, which was a bit shocking considering how packed the restaurant appeared.

Matt and I were SO torn about what to order…. so we did what we always do when we’re torn… we shared! We ended up ordering one sweet and one savory dish: Coco Berry Pancakes for the sweet and Mexican Potato for the savory.

Our meals took about 20 minutes to come out, but let me tell you… it was worth the wait.

The pancakes REALLY looked just like their menu photos. Take a look at what was delivered to our table!!

I can’t even begin to describe how excellent both of these dishes were. The Coco Berry was sweet but not too sweet, with with the fresh whipped cream to lighten the heavy pancake with rich raspberry sauce. However, the Mexican Potato just blew us away. The pancakes themselves reminded us of latkes, but with a fluffier, cakier consistency. They were potato flavored with delicious onion undertones, and the guacamole and pico de gallo were homey but perfect.

Needless to say, we finished everything we ordered. It was a close call regarding if we licked the plates or not. Did we? We’ll never tell.

If you have time in Sydney, DEFINITELY check this place out — reasonable prices and delicious food. Oh, and did I mention that they’re open 24/7?
