Is it Easy to Cancel a Crunch Gym Membership?
Real Life, Travel, Workout

crunch_fitness_logo_blueBefore I get into the cancellation process at Crunch, I DO want to mention that before I cancelled, I DID check to see if they had international locations, because I would have 100% kept my membership if there was any chance I’d work out even once or twice a month while abroad. Sadly, Crunch has yet to expand internationally, so I *did* have to move forward with my cancellation.

Of course, I couldn’t go to cancel my membership without getting a workout in… so this morning I popped over to Crunch before all of my other errands to get in a quick 5k row on the erg. I do have to say, despite my reservations about joining a “globogym” after Crossfit, I really have loved Crunch. My one complaint is that there’s only one squat rack; however, there are 2 ergs, tons of other free weights, and a plethora of cardio equipment, including some AWESOME stair climbers. Also, the fact that they have an aqua massage you can use complimentary with your $20/month membership doesn’t hurt either.

ANYHOW on to the cancellation!

After my workout, I stopped by the counter to ask about the “cancellation process.”

The counter guy told me I “needed to speak to a manager” and then proceeded to stare at me. I asked if there was a manager here currently for me to speak to. He seemed startled but said yes and trotted off to get said manager.

A few minutes later the manager appeared and asked me to come around to the other side of the reg-area (that’s where we went for signup so not really a surprise). He was incredibly pleasant and asked why I was looking to cancel. I explained that I was moving out of the country and he laughed and completely understood. He then gave me the spiel about how they need 10 days prior to billing cycle to complete a cancellation, and I agreed because, well, I already paid this cycle on Sept 10, so I’m paid through Oct 10. Plus, I’d like to use the gym for the next two weeks ANYWAY, so that works out just fine.

After he gave me the details and I agreed, he had me sign one digital form and supposedly that’s it! I was immediately sent a copy of said form, which apparently I can’t post here because there’s a legal stipulation in the email (annoying! I was totally going to share it), is VERY clear and not in any kind of strange legalese, and plainly states that I’m terminating my membership and do not owe any further fees. The whole process from start to finish took about ten minutes. If that’s all I had to do and I don’t get charged again somehow in October, I’d say that was INCREDIBLY easy and I’m insanely impressed. Nice job, Crunch! I’ll definitely be looking into potentially re-joining when I’m back in the States!
